The Valravn
“Protect one another. Kill for one another. Take for one another.”
Illust. Jakub Jagoda
The Valravn is a group of mercenaries formed and led by Kilgore Khan. Before the Verdanii invasion of the Southern Nations, the Valravn ran covert operations throughout Morbidia. Every member of the Valravn were specialised with a set of skills. They took all sorts of jobs — espionage, assassination, sabotage. So proficient were they at their job, stories were created by the Southerners to terrify their children. Amassing much wealth from their dirty work, the Valravn purchased and settled in an old, macabre tavern and inn for themselves. It is called the Raven’s Mane, located in the port town of Skáratfort.
The Valravn stood by a single oath. One they would follow until the moment of their death.
Under Kilgore’s leadership, the Valravn instigated a war between the Verdanii and the Southern Nations, hoping that they would profit out of the conflict. At the beginning, everything seemed to go according to Kilgore’s plan. Governors of the Southern Nations flew in contracts to the Raven’s Mane. Many were requested to defend their towns and villages. With the money and the control they’ve established all over the Southern Nations, they lead a prosperous life in times of war.
But war changed people. One by one, the ravens fell. The ravages of war chipped their conviction and their flame grew weaker each passing day. The death of Southerners in their hands made them question their own methods.
What are we? Are we not freedom fighters? Are we not free to fight for what we believe in?
When Kilgore was captured by the Verdanii during the Battle of the Trenches, the Valravn was forced to shift their leadership. Thus, beginning a new era for the Valravn. A downward spiral that turned them into the liberation army of the Southern Nations, filled with ordinary Southerners in the fight against the Verdanii army.
