Calamity

Calamity Icon

Calamity are abilities owned by Legendary Units. These abilities are identified with the Calamity Icon (shown above) followed by a text that tells what the Calamity does.

These are abilities that are triggered when a Legendary Unit is flipped up on the Crown. It happens at an instant speed, ignoring whatever is on the Effect Stack.

There are instances where Calamity happens as a Vassal Effect, such as one belonging to Branwen. In this case, Calamity is triggered as Branwen enters the Battlefield.

Ungrave

“If followed by a number, draw that amount from the Grave at random. Otherwise, reveal the top card of the Grave until units with the correct conditions are revealed. Put those cards into your hand.”

This keyword is often followed by a number. For example, Ungrave 1 or Ungrave 2. In this case, the Player simply draw that amount of card from the Grave to their hands.

If followed by a Unit Type, for example:

  • Ungrave Horror
  • Ungrave 2 Undead

You need to shuffle the Grave, then reveal the top card until a Horror is revealed. Then you put that Horror card into your hand.

If there is a number “Ungrave 2 Undead”. The same process is followed, but the Player reveals the top card of the Grave until 2 Undead are revealed. Put those 2 cards into their hand.

Remember! Players draw cards from the Graveyard, not the Wilds!

Resurrect

“If followed by a number, summon that amount from the Grave at random. Otherwise, reveal the top card of the Grave until units with the correct conditions are revealed. Summon those units.”

This keyword is always followed by either a number and a Unit Type. For example:

  • Resurrect 1 Undead
  • Resurrect 2 Spirit

If a Resurrect keyword prompts a Player to “Resurrect 1 Undead”. That Player shuffles the Graveyard, reveals the top card of the Graveyard until an Undead is revealed. Then, they Summon that unit as their Vassal.

If a Resurrect keyword prompts a Player to “Dig 2 Spirits”. The same process is followed, but the Player reveals the top cards of the Graveyard until two Spirit units are revealed. Then, they Summon those two Spirit units as their Vassal.

A Player cannot Resurrect units if their Vassal is at maximum.

Quickcast

“Can be played in response to another Spell or Invocation.”

This keyword is a property assigned to a Spell (and sometimes and Invocation). A Spell with Quickcast can be ‘Cast’ in response to another Spell Cast during another Player’s Action.

A Spell Casted in response to another Spell will enter an Effect Stack. Resolution of Effect will occurs on a Stack basis (Last In First Out).

For more detailed explanation about the Effect Stack see: Advanced Rulings and Clarifications

Invoke

Invoke Icon

Invoke indicates an Invocation—activated abilities that produces Effect unique from a spell. These abilities are identified with the Invoke Icon (shown above) followed by a text that tells what the Invocation does.

Players can choose to activate these abilities during the Action Phase if they have access to an Invocation.

Invocation can come from Legendary Units, Unit Type bonuses, or Special Rules.

Ethereal

“Cannot be assigned Combat Damage”

This keyword is a property assigned to a Unit. An Ethereal unit cannot be assigned combat damage. This means that any incoming damage that needs to be assigned in Combat, cannot be assigned to an Ethereal unit and must be assigned to other units in the Legion / Vassal.

For more detailed and advanced ruling see: Advanced Rulings and Clarifications

Despair

“Activates only when you have the lowest Collected Ichor.”

This keyword usually comes in sentences. For example: “If you despair, gain 2 Ichor”.

When this happens, check if you have the lowest Collected Ichor among the players. If you do, the effect of “gain 2 Ichor” resolves. Otherwise, don’t resolve the “gain 2 Ichor”.

Should players are tied with the lowest Ichor, Despair condition is still fulfilled.

Shield

“Add Shield Counters to a unit. A Shield counter prevents one damage.”

Shield Counters

This keyword is accompanied by a number. For example: Shield 2. In this case, two Shield counters are added to a unit.

A Shield Counter prevents damage dealt to a unit from any source. Any remaining Shield Counters are removed at the end of the Magna Cycle.

For more detailed and advanced rulings see: Advanced Rulings and Clarifications

Bolster

“Add Power Counters to a unit. A Power Counter gives +1 Power to a unit.”

Power Counters

This keyword is accompanied by a number. For example: Bolster 1. In this case, a Power counter are added to a unit.

A Power Counter adds a permanent +1 Power to unit, meaning it will be dealing an additional combat damage. Power Counter remains on the unit until it is removed from the board.
